The Deathly Hallows – My Review

Again with no spoilers policy:

Without claiming anything out of this world, let me just tell you some facts about the whole Potter Mania. In 10 years since 1997 when the first book came out, a huge 350 Million copies in 40 languages has been sold baring the last book which is Deathly Hallows. This count does not include the pirated street versions also. As the reports came in for the seventh book it was like 15 books were sold every second on the opening day.

So what is it about a children’s book which has around 12 Million websites and $6 Billion franchise in Books, Movies and Merchandise?

First of all, it is not just a children’s book or fairy tale.

From the first book, it tells us a story of a 11 year old orphan who founds him in a magical world and being told that his parents were murdered and it was he, who made the killer, the Dark Lord, vanish when he was just one year old. This is why he is famous.

Now he makes friends, starts school and tries to learn whatever he can from the new changed world. His small wonders and adventures grow big as the years passes. Meanwhile the Dark Lord, who was vanished trying to kill Harry in his childhood, is trying to return.

The maturity of the book grows with every passing year. Each book is darker and more mature than its previous one.

Come book 4 and we realize the Dark Lord is back, and in 5th, he is on his powers to destroy the Magical world. He is power hungry and wants Harry dead to prove he is the most powerful and is not defeated by a kid as was happened while Harry was just 1 year old.

In the 6th book the war is on and secret of the end of the Dark Lord is passed to Harry by the Headmaster, Prof. Albus Dumbledore, of his school.

And come the ‘Deathly Hallows’, it is all there on loose and a epic comes to an end with deaths, pain, legends, kisses and an ending which really gives all the answers left unsaid. Harry is on the task that Dumbledore gave him. He has to act without any help from the world outside. Everyone is on the run. The ministry is taken over by the Dark Lord and it’s just Harry and his true friends Ron and Hermione are on a task which seems impossible.

If in the sixth book there were drug and sexual references, kisses and references about the nobility of blood and breeding, the seventh book comes again with a lot of heart beats, kisses and Harry shedding cloths on two occasions and alcohol references.

One can discard the idea of opening a children’s book but trust the truth and you will know it is not just about the kids but is all about the magic that we all have in our hearts called love and friendship and all the tasks which are yet to be done before it’s too late.

The Potter Saga comes to an end after 3500 pages worth of read.

So take it from me and rush to the nearest book store.

The titles in the reading order are:

Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone

Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets

Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban

Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire

Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix

Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows

Happy Reading.

The Deathly Hallows – I got it!

I got the leaked copy of ‘Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows’ yesterday. I cannot believe it really leaked… actually what I am having is photographs taken of each page in a 74 MB zipped folder.

Though I have pre ordered my own original DH, I don’t mind reading the leaked one before some one spoils the party but to my fear I have already got some spoilers and not waiting for more so busy in finishing whatever I am having.

Not to worry folks! I am NOT going to place the link here OR posting any spoilers.

The two letter word

There is a two letter word that perhaps has more meaning than any other two letter word, and that is ‘UP’.

It’s is easy to understand UP, meaning toward the sky or at the top of the list, but when we awaken in the morning, why do you wake UP? At a meeting why does a topic come UP? Why do we speak UP and why are the officers Up for the election and why is it UP

to the secretary to write UP a report? We call UP our friends, we use it to brighten UP a room, polish UP the silver, we warm UP the leftovers and clean UP the kitchen. We look UP the house and some guys fix UP the old car. People stir UP trouble, line UP for the tickets, work UP an appetite, and think UP excuses. And this UP is confusing: A drain must be opened UP because it is stopped UP.

You might try building UP a list of the many ways UP is used. It will take UP a lot of time, but if you don’t give UP, you may wind UP with a hundred or more.

When it threatens to rain, we say it is clouding UP.

When sun comes out we say it is clearing UP.

When it rains, it wets the earth and often messes the things UP.

When it doesn’t rain for while, things dry UP.

One could go on, but I’ll wrap it UP, for now my time is UP, so… Time to shut UP.

Typhoid

The word is Typhoid.

I got it as this month started and only today I was able to join the office. Still feeling a bit weak but can manage.

Good things that happened lately were we bought a fridge and a BIG 29′ TV set plus a Tata Sky connection on it.

Priyanka’s MBA admission counseling is scheduled on 17th so she left for Indore yesterday.

My chances of entering in the pix short film contest vanished with the arrival of the sickness. Now I am very much in a confused state about this.

Harry is coming tomorrow with Order of the Phoenix. I am all set to watch the movie on Friday night and once more over the weekend in Hindi version.

I pre booked the copy of the Deathly Hallows with Crossword bookstores. I cannot wait till 21st when the book comes out.

Priyanka will be back till 23-24 and I do have enough things to keep myself busy till then.

How are you all friends?

In the pic posted here are Gaurav, Ankit, Deepak, Jagdish, Hissam and me. This was taken when they all came to my apartment to have lunch around 3 weeks before.
